Norm Gerestein is elected new mayor of Brooks: this is how the official results of the 2025 elections turned out.

The city of Brooks experienced a historic democratic day with high citizen participation and the election of a new Municipal Council that will support Mayor Norm Gerestein in his administration.

The city of Brooks, Alberta, held its 2025 municipal elections with broad citizen participation that defined the new political direction of the community.

With a total of 1,804 votes, Norm Gerestein was elected as mayor of Brooks, surpassing Joel Goodnough, who received 1,092 votes.

Gerestein, recognized for his commitment to local development and his focus on government transparency, will take on the leadership of the city with the challenge of continuing to drive infrastructure projects, housing, and support for local entrepreneurs.

“I am deeply grateful for the trust of the citizens of Brooks. I will work tirelessly to build a stronger, more inclusive, and prosperous community,” expressed Gerestein after learning the results.

Elected councillors

Alongside the new mayor, six councilors will make up the Municipal Council 2025–2029, representing a diversity of local profiles and backgrounds:

  • Mara Nesbitt – 1,576 votes
  • Chad Falkenberg – 1,261 votes
  • Jackie Johnson – 1,202 votes
  • Anne-Marie Philipsen – 1,166 votes
  • Mohammed Idriss – 1,141 votes
  • Mike Regner – 1,097 votes

These six leaders will be responsible for working alongside the mayor in making decisions that will shape the urban, economic, and social development of Brooks over the next four years.

Other standout candidates

Also participating in the contest were Clayton Heck (1,057 votes), Emelcris Aurelio (1,026 votes), Ryan “Skippy” Mobbs (949 votes), Paul Post (893 votes), Marissa Wardrop (802 votes), and Carly Bryant (662 votes), who demonstrated a strong commitment to the community and contributed valuable ideas during the campaign.

With the announcement of the official results, the community of Brooks celebrates a new political stage focused on collaboration, sustainable growth, and strengthening the sense of belonging.

The local authorities highlighted citizen participation as a reflection of the residents' commitment to the common good and the future development of the city.
