McLaren dominates in Barcelona: Piastri and Norris achieve a 1-2
The Australian driver Oscar Piastri claimed his fifth victory of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix, held on Sunday, June 1, at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Starting from pole position, Piastri led the race from start to finish, followed by his teammate, Lando Norris, who secured second place, solidifying an impressive 1-2 for McLaren.
With this result, Piastri extends his lead in the drivers' championship, accumulating 186 points, ten more than Norris, his closest rival.
Track controversy: Verstappen penalized after incident with Russell
The race was not without drama. In the final laps, Max Verstappen from Red Bull was involved in a collision with George Russell from Mercedes, following an order from his team to yield position. The incident cost Verstappen a 10-second penalty, dropping him from fifth to tenth place.
Furthermore, Verstappen now has 11 penalty points on his super licence, just one away from an automatic race suspension.
